HISTORY
On June 8, 1884, thirty-three former members of the First African Baptist Church of Sapelo Island, Georgia, with the assistance of Rev. Neal and Rev. Rogers of Darien, Georgia, organized what is now known as the Saint Luke Baptist Church.
St. Luke Baptist Church, an outgrowth of the First African Baptist Church of Sapelo Island Georgia was originally named the Second Baptist Church. In 1898 the church was renamed the Saint Luke Baptist Church.
Both Reverends Neal and Rogers served as pastors of the church from the time of her organization, June 1884, until December 1884. Fourteen ministers have served as pastors following the pastorate of Reverends Neal and Rogers.
On January 22, 2023, St. Luke installed pastor Rev. E. Scott Dixon.
PASTOR REV. E. SCOTT DIXON
Rev. E. Scott Dixon was named the senior pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church of Sapelo Island, GA. July of 2022. Rev. Dixon’s journey to the ministry comes as no surprise to those who know him well.
Rev. Dixon was ordained on February 13, 2005, under the Rev. Dr. Harris T. Travis of Zion Baptist Church in Marietta, GA. Rev. and has since spread the word of God in several states.
The eldest son of the late Deacon Edward and Elder Muriel Dixon, Rev. Dixon is a native of Brooklyn, NY. In 1985 he came to Atlanta, GA, to study at Morris Brown College. He obtained a B.S. in Community Health Education as well as attended seminary at the International Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, GA. Along with those accomplishments, he attended Georgia State University and received a teaching certification in Science & Special Education.
For the past 18 years, he has been teaching 8th Grade Science in the Cobb County School System. Through his community affiliations with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., former Baseball & Softball Coach, Red Cross CPR Instructor, and other non-profit Executive Board appointments, he has made a lifelong impact on children and youth.
Rev. Dixon has the privilege of being supported by a great family. His wife of 24 years, Lady Tiffany Dixon, his son Joshua Dixon, his two daughters, Clairissa Dixon and Taylor (Elijah) Staggers, and grand daughter True Grace Staggers.
Rev. Dixon is a visionary. He believes that faith works by love. It shows itself in the exercise of love for God and love for our neighbor. As love will show itself by its labor.
